The racing team Moscow-ZIL and its pilot Sergey Shmakov, SAPSAN President, in the course of the legendary Dakar Rally Marathon (that year it was Lisbon-Dakar) made top 20 strongest teams to finish, taking 14th place overall in the final protocol.
At the time, this result was the best in the history of Russia's participation in the legendary marathon.
Sergey Shmakov was awarded the rank of Honored Master of Sports and included in the priority list of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
